With a coat of arms, we are an ARMIGEROUS Society, appointed by Scotland's Lord Lyon, King of Arms. We are a charitable Trust and clan society and are the acknowledged voice of the Armstrongs on the English/Scottish border. We have regular gatherings and like to think of ourselves as a family, but education is one of our remits and we have devoted many years to researching and preserving the heritage of the Armstrongs and uniting those with Armstrong connections. There are many inaccuracies published on the Armstrongs, but the Trust makes regular contact with universities and historical societies to discover more information. We are constantly testing existing statements, legends and traditions. There will always be controversial areas. History is full of stories that have been accepted as fact, and while we would not wish to crush the myths completely (what a dull world that would be!) we strive for the truth. There are other groups that represent the Armstrongs, but the Clan Armstrong Trust is the acknowledged voice of the Armstrongs on the border. We have the largest collection of Armstrong archives anywhere in the world. We have the finest Armstrong museum, situated in the heart of reiving country. We look after many Armstrong sites and monuments. We are recognised as the experts on Armstrong history. COME AND JOIN US! OUR STATEMENT... The Clan Armstrong Trust is an educational and research body, but it's also a Clan Society representing the interests of the Armstrongs worldwide. We make the following promise: We will not knowingly publish anything of a historical nature on the Internet unless the source references have been thoroughly checked. The Trust is constantly investigating old statements and traditions. There will always remain controversial areas. History is full of legends which have been accepted as fact, but repeat a legend often enough and it can become fact. If it is proved beyond reasonable doubt to be wrong, the Trust promises to amend the story and publish the correct version. THE WAY WE'RE RUN... We were set up in 1978 to 'further public education in the history and culture of the Clan Armstrong'. Since then we have developed into more than that, having a thriving clan society. We are an approved company and charity and are run by a BOARD OF DIRECTORS, who are elected by the members. All the board members are volunteers. WE MEET... Bi-annually, usually in August, we get together for an Armstrong Gathering. All members are invited and it is generally held in the heart of Armstrong country, at Langholm. Director's reports on the work of the Trust and audited copies of the accounts are sent out to members beforehand. The Bi-Annual General Meeting is held here and votes are taken on important policy decisions. The directors may run the Trust during the period between meetings, but the members will decide whether they agree or not! Also at this weekend gathering, we have a tour of Armstrong sites, or we attend the local Border Gathering. We have our own dinner and entertainment; there's always plenty of tartan on show and more often than not, there are pipes and dancing! WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP... You will gain access to our Members Only area on this site. Here you will receive our magazine, The Milnholm Cross twice a year. This magazine is devoted to the Armstrongs and border life. We welcome articles and suggestions from new and old members........contact the Editor Chris by using our online contact form. You will also receive regular informative Newsletters. We also keep you informed of Armstrong projects and events. If you are at the other side of the world, we are the people to keep you in touch with your roots.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE ARMSTRONGS, WE NEED YOU! WE ARE ACKNOWLEDGED BY LORD LYON .... WE HAVE A REPUTATION SECOND TO NONE ... (Excuse the boasting, but we're very proud of our organization!) COME AND JOIN US! Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Armstrongs. It is not restricted to Armstrongs alone. Registered as a charity by the Inland Revenue No: SC 04341
