WE GATHER IN LANGHOLM!
on
Friday evening the 5th,
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2008

This year the main events will take place in Langholm, at the Eskdale Hotel, starting with the usual get-together on the Friday evening. For people arriving earlier on Friday the museum will be open. You will be assured of a warm welcome from Ann our museum attendant.

The Annual General Meeting will be held in the upstairs concert hall at the Eskdale at 10.30 am on Saturday morning followed by coffee and biscuits and we plan to present a talk on the history of the area and the Armstrong connections. After lunch the Museum will be open if you wish to view the collection or spend a while watching Videos or the new Reiver DVD featuring our own Fiona. Also the afternoon will give people who so wish the chance to explore the Reiver Trail.

The Saturday evening dinner will be held in the dining room at the Eskdale Hotel at 7 for 7.30 pm. A three course meal and there will be a choice of menu. ( Please indicate your choice on the booking form enclosed with the magazine).

The evening entertainment will take place upstairs in the newly refurbished concert hall and with our old friend Billy Young being available to compere and sing for us this should be a good evening.

We usually leave Sunday morning free so that folk can rest or do their own thing and on the Sunday afternoon we have a very special outing to look forward to.

We shall need to leave Langholm by approx 11.15 am to go to Bewcastle, the home of Armstrong families since medieval times. On arrival the ladies of Bewcastle are putting on a home-made lunch for us. They are also laying out an exhibition relating to the area and especially its long association with the Armstrongs.

This will followed by a talk from a local historian and then a very special church service at which the Trust’s banner, after being paraded into the beautiful St. Cuthberts Church, will be placed on the alter and blessed by the presiding vicar.

Bewcastle is a fascinating, timeless place, its history going back to pre-Roman times, and earlier. We know that it is a visit not to be missed.
